South Australian Parliament inquiry hands down soft plastics report

In 2023 The South Australian government commenced an inquiry into the recycling of soft plastics and other recyclable material in South Australia. The Select Committee appointed to conduct the inquiry have now handed down its report, which includes 33 recommendations. Amongst these are focus areas of:
• Developing and expanding infrastructure needs – including recycling, kerbside collection and in-store drop off.
• Building and strengthening end markets for recyclate.

Mandatory climate-related financial disclosures

The Australian Treasury has announced that mandatory climate-related financial disclosures will commence on 1 January 2025. This measure reflects the Government’s commitment to improving the quality of climate-related financial disclosures, providing Australians and investors with greater transparency and more comparable information about an entity’s exposure to climate-related financial risks and opportunities and climate-related plans and strategies.

Reform of packaging regulation

The Australian government is exploring the best way to reform Australia’s packaging regulations to minimise packaging waste and pollution and build a circular economy for packaging.
Interested stakeholders are invited to make submissions by 5pm (AEDT) Monday, 28 October 2024.

Beyond Recycling: Moving South Australia towards a circular economy

The South Australian government has announced a review of its Environment Protection (Waste to Resources) Policy 2010 (W2R EPP) as it looks to modernise the State’s approach to the regulation of resources and wastes and enable the development of a more circular economy.

Interested parties are invited to make comment.
