Bridging the Digital Divide. Extending the Life of Unwanted Phones, Tablets and Laptops

Across Australia, millions of unused phones, tablets and laptops sit idle—many still functional with a simple repair and data wipe. The Reconnect Project provides a solution to the e-waste of mobile devices transforming these devices into lifelines, (re)connecting people with family, community and essential services.

A Circular Solution with Social Impact
An award-winning social enterprise, The Reconnect Project tackles e-waste while empowering communities. Devices are repaired, refurbished and sold affordably online, or distributed through support agencies to those most in need.

How It Works

  • Devices are donated via drop-off points or mail-in services.
  • Volunteers and technicians assess, repair or harvest parts.
  • Neurodivergent young adults are trained and employed in repair, retail and customer service.
  • Repaired devices are distributed through partners including:
    • Women’s refuges
    • Homelessness services
    • Refugee and asylum seeker support
    • Youth outreach programs

Unrepairable items are responsibly recycled.
