Recycling e-waste

TechCollect - Why Recycle

Reuse

1. Sell or swap it
If the device is still working, give the item away.  This reduces waste and pollution too.  Some trading options include Freecycle, Reuse Moose or Yoink, or sell it on eBay or Craigslist, QuickSales or Gumtree.

You can even use the Gumtree or Freecycle apps on your phone to sell the items.

2.  Donate it
Some charities and social enterprises will accept used electronics.  Call ahead first to check.

Recycle e-waste

Electronic waste does not need to end up in landfill.

There are TechCollect drop-off sites and events around the Australia.  We can help you do the right thing, so don’t throw it out, bring it in – it’s free.

In addition, Planet Ark's Recycling Near You website lists recycling options across Australia.  Visit their website to see what programs are available in your area.

Recycle your mobile phones and accessories

Use MobileMuster to recycle mobile phones, chargers, accessories or mobile batteries, simply drop them off at the nearest drop off location or post them in using a free mailing label or pick up a free recycling satchel from an Australia Post outlet. MobileMuster is a not for profit program funded by the mobile phone industry.  All components are recycled. None are sold for reuse.

Recycle your printer cartridges

‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' is an effective extended producer responsibility program.  The cost of collecting, transporting, and recycling the cartridges, as well as promoting the program, is paid for by the participating manufacturers of the Planet Ark program.

Don't dump it

Never dump electronics on the street.  Damaged items can leach toxic substances into the environment.*

Please don't dump goods outside a charity or charity bin.  You can be fined for illegal dumping, and electronic items are easily destroyed when exposed to the elements.
